Man in A697 fatal crash named

A 65-year-old man who died in a crash involving a lorry on the A697 near Linden Hall has been named.

Alistair Simpson, from the Wooler area, was airlifted to the RVI in Newcastle following the accident on Tuesday afternoon, but later died from his injuries.

The collision, around 4.45pm, meant that the road was closed in both directions for several hours.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact police on 101.
