A man has been airlifted from Holy Island today after suffering serious leg injuries in a fall from 80feet.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was called to the island at 1.52pm after a 47-year-old man had fallen a sheer drop of 25 metres.

Apart from the severe leg injuries, he also sustained back, pelvic and arm damage. He was anaesthetised on scene by the GNAAS doctor and paramedic crew before being flown to the RVI in Newcastle. The flight took 15 minutes.
