Man, 79, dies after road collision at Seaton Sluice in Northumberland

Police are appealing for witnesses after a 79-year-old man died in a road traffic collision in Northumberland.

Northumbria Police were contacted at 8.30am today (Saturday, April 3) with a report a white Suzuki had veered off the road and hit a wall while travelling west on Fountain Head Bank, Seaton Sluice towards The Avenue A190.

Officers said the reasons the car left the road are ‘yet to be established’.

Police and emergency services attended the scene and the driver of the car, a 79-year-old man, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries but has sadly died.

A force spokesman said his family are being supported by specialist officers.

An investigation has since been launched and officers are now appealing for any witnesses to the collision, or anyone with dashcam to come forward.

Sergeant Ray Lowery from Northumbria Police’s Motor Patrols asked anyone with footage or information relating to the incident to come forward.

He said: “This is an extremely sad incident in which a man has lost his life. Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this time.

“Our investigation is ongoing and we have already spoken to number of witnesses in connection with this incident, but would encourage anyone who hasn’t come forward to get in touch as soon as possible. We’d also welcome any dashcam footage to help us build up a clear picture of the moment leading up to this collision.”
