Making new friends ahead of the switch to two-tier
Pupils from Embleton and Whittingham first schools teamed up for a group sports day last week.
Plus, parents and staff attended a workshop to help launch Embleton Vincent Edwards CofE First School as an outstanding primary school under the Alnwick Partnership’s switch to a two-tier structure.
There have been a series of collaborative events between schools, including Sports Relief at Willowburn Sports and Leisure Centre in Alnwick, allowing children to make new friends and staff to share their experiences of outstanding practice.
One parent said: “My daughter was so excited to make new friends; some of them have become pen pals and they just love getting together for these shared school days.
“It’s very reassuring to see that our children are building friendship groups elsewhere in the Alnwick Partnership – it’s nice to know that they will already have lots of friends from other schools when they all come together in Year 7 at the Duchess’s.”
Eco-school coordinator at Embleton, Amy Varty, said: “We have a unique school here by the beach. We’d like to host many more collaborative days like this, where children from larger schools can come and enjoy the exciting learning opportunities that our fantastic location offers.”
“I’d like to thank Lynne Fortescue and Belinda Athey for organising these days and hope that there will be many more to come.”
