Made-up letters of objection are removed

A string of fictitious objection letters submitted against a controversial planning application in Amble have been removed from Northumberland County Council's website and the authority is investigating the matter.

The scheme, at the former Signal Cottage site, is for the retrospective demolition of a bungalow and the construction of a building containing one private dwelling house and three duplex holiday lets.

It has sparked some negative comments from members of the community.

But at Amble Town Council on Thursday, the meeting heard that 17 fictitious objection letters have been removed from the county council’s planning page.

A county-council spokeswoman said: “We are investigating this issue and have removed some representations from the website while we look into it.”
