LYNX: Potential risk to children

With regard to the article on returning the lynx to Britain, why oh why do we have to listen to scientists saying things are a good idea?

The reintroduction of the lynx into Britain is disturbing to say the least.

I lived close to Kielder for 10 years and the forest there is a working place and a place of work.

It provides recreation space and adventure playgrounds, with cycling, walking and camping opportunities.

Britain is a safe place for our children, with only adders and in some places wild boar (again reinstated). Britain’s countryside and forests are safe places and should stay that way.

Lynx have killed humans and we are a food source to a lynx, especially in winter when other food sources are scarce.

Kielder roads and villages are isolated. Lynx will reproduce and could easily stray into inhabited isolated farms and villages.

Even recreational areas by Kielder Water could be visited by lynx.

In the past, stalkers from Europe came to the forest to shoot. This brought work and money into an area that needed it, supporting bed and breakfasts, restaurants and other local amenities. It also helped to control the deer numbers by selective culling.

Stop this nonsense and keep Britain’s forests and countryside safe.
