Luxury leisure comes to Lucker in Northumberland

Daniel and Aimee Johnson, part of the Johnson clan behind the Stablewood Group, welcomed guests to Beau Monde in Lucker this morning where the salon and spa was officially opened by the Duchess of Northumberland.

The facility is another project from the Northumberland-based leisure and tourism group which has recently seen The Apple Inn pub and The Apple Core pizzeria and crêperie, also in Lucker, celebrate their first year of business, while there have been plenty of developments at the equestrian business, Alnwick Ford Equestrian, based near Longframlington,

The group is run by the Johnson family, headed up by mum Tina, who started the company with five holiday cottages at Budle Bay in 2011, and involving her three sons, Johny, Daniel and Martin.

The large building features a spacious reception and hairdressing/beauty salon with treatment rooms, as well as a swimming pool with jacuzzi, sauna and steam room.

Upstairs there is a small gym, a conference room, a games room and another room which could be used for lunch and the idea is that businesses could book Beau Monde for the day.

Tina’s husband Kevin explained that the building is brand new – work started in October and the facility opened today, an impressive turnaround – and it was designed by son Daniel, who project-managed the build, and his wife Aimee.

The land at Lucker Steadings which houses the complex as well as a number of holiday lets was acquired from the Northumberland Estates.

“We work very well with the Northumberland Estates,” said Kevin. “Rory Wilson and his team are very supportive in terms of breathing life into rural Northumberland.”

He added that the Estates and the Stablewood Group have similar visions ‘in terms of creating opportunities and facilities in rural areas’.

“We are very proud of the fact that we already employ 20 people from the area, we have clearly invested in the area and everything is done through local contractors.”

The only things during the construction of Beau Monde which were done by people from outside Northumberland were the pool and the plastering.

Aimee said: “Danny and I have been together 10 years and we have always dreamed of this, but never thought it would happen. Our vision has truly come to life.” She thanked everyone involved in the project and said she was ‘overwhelmed to see how much hard work has gone in’.

Prior to cutting a ribbon to mark the official opening, an impressed Duchess described Beau Monde as ‘a real feather in our caps for Northumberland’ and was very complimentary about the family-run nature of the business. “Congratulations to you all and I wish you the very best of success,” she added.

The salon and spa offers everything from body scrubs to Mediterranean massages and pedicures to tanning, alongside a range of packages for those wishing to spend a half-day or day at the spa. They also provide wedding hair and make-up packages.
