Lowick pupils help village look into the future at open day

Lowick First School pupils have been thinking about how they would like the village to be in the future.

Their ideas will be on display at a village open day, organised by the parish council, taking place on Saturday.

The parish council challenged pupils to produce a colourful masterplan of the facilities and activities they would like to see.

The competition produced ideas for a community of the future which shows the way for the features the next generation would like to see incorporated into the village’s neighbourhood plan, a document to help guide how it develops over the next few years.

John Huddart, parish council chairman, said: “The entries were brilliant – it shows the way our children think a lively village, with amenities that all generations can use, is in everyone’s interests.

“People will be able to admire their ideas at the village open day this Saturday.

“We also will be displaying the village as it is today – the activities and businesses that thrive here – and if you come along, you will be able to see what you can join, or where you can get local tradesmen to do the job.”

He added: “We are also keen that everyone gets the chance to express their view on the village that they’d like to see – so we will be displaying examples of other neighbourhood plans to look at, and asking people to write down the ideas they have about the good and not so good things in the parish.”

The open day starts at 10am and finishes at 2pm, and there will be free refreshments for anyone who drops in.
