Lowick girls on the ball with Newcastle United

Hundreds of girls recently took part in Newcastle United FC Foundation trials and six Lowick United Girls travelled south to take part.

In a first for Berwick, amazingly, all six were successful in securing places in the NUFC Development and Advanced squads.

Taylor Hemmings, Brodie Hutchison, Peggy Mein, Megan Sprot and Rhiannon Wood all play for Lowick United Girls U13 team with young Ailsa Swinburne the sole U11 representative.

The older girls have been training and playing together for four years and the coaching team of Andy Thorpe, Dawn Purvis and Richard Wood have seen them develop as part of a very talented squad.

Andy Thorpe said: “We are delighted for the club and the town that all of the girls and coaches hard work on player development has been positively recognised by Newcastle United FC”.

He added that “it was a bit of a shame that only six of the players went down as I believe that there are more within the squad that have the ability to make the grade at the higher level.”

The girls will be part of a training and development programme that will see them wearing the famous black &white stripes, representing Newcastle United FC.

On a positive note they will also still be able to train and play League football for Lowick United FC and are looking forward to the new season starting in September.
