A WARKWORTH couple has marked 60 years of marriage with a special service and family celebrations.
Peter and Jean Buist celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary on, December 15 at Abbeyfield House in the village where they have lived for the last two years.
Peter and Jean first met in 1949 and were married two years later in Ilford, Essex.
After raising a family of five children and 12 grandchildren and spending most of their married life in the South of England, they moved to Warkworth to be close to their youngest son Simon, whose daughter and two granddaughters live in Alnwick.
Peter and Jean said they could not believe how lucky they were to have moved to Northumberland and the comfort and friendship of Abbeyfield House.
They celebrated their special day with a service of thanksgiving conducted by Christine Shield, a lay reader from St Lawrence’s Church in Warkworth, and then raised a glass or two with other residents, volunteers, staff and members of their family.
Peter and Jean’s marriage has been a perfect example to their five children, all of whom are married, and who have collectively amassed 155 years of marriage.
Their celebration was made even more special when they received a card from the Queen congratulating them on their 60 years of marriage.
