• There have been a few incidents of vandalism at the allotments in Longhoughton, but things are going well at the plots. The allotments are along Tedder Place and the chairman of the association said: “We have eight plots – all taken – and we have a waiting list of two. We are looking at creating a ninth plot, as well as a picnic area for people in the village to use. There has been some vandalism and we have had a shed broken into, but we’ve taken a low-key approach and the trouble hasn’t escalated.”

• A community litter-pick is taking place on Saturday, June 4, and residents are being encouraged to take part. The spruce-up will be held in each of the parish’s three villages – Longhoughton, Boulmer and Howick – and will run simultaneously from 10am to 11.30am. Coun Eleanor Phillips said: “Let’s see what we can achieve in 90 minutes.”

• Feelers are being put out to see if anyone would be interested in editing a parish newsletter. Discussions have taken place about resurrecting the news sheet, containing local information and events, with the aim of bolstering communication. Coun Adrian Hinchcliffe said it would be good to have an independent editor and could come out every two months.
