County Coun Kate Cairns said: “I was thinking of using some of my small schemes’ money to slow down traffic. I was thinking gateway signs, rumble strips, cycle lanes and footpath widening. It will be investigated, then I will come back with a plan.”

• Longhoughton parish councillors will be deciding on whether to go ahead with developing a neighbourhood plan. The financial implications of creating the document could be a hurdle. The issue will be thrashed out at the next meeting, on Monday, January 16, at Longhoughton’s Westfield Park, starting at 7.30pm.
