Longhoughton and Boulmer WI, October meeting

The October meeting found members of Longhoughton and Boulmer WI all star-gazing with our almost resident astronomer Adrian Janetta.

Once again he transported us into space with his presentation “Powers of 10” the scale of the universe.

Each step took us further from earth until we reached infinity. Or is it?

He described black holes, how the earth and planets were formed and how new galaxies are being discovered.

This is his third visit to us and we have already booked him to speak next year.

We were very pleased to welcome quite a few new faces at our meeting, some visitors and hopefully some prospective new members.

We were reminded of the group meeting at the Costello Centre on October 16. Howick is having a musical evening in November and Alnmouth a Harvest Tea on October 30, with shops in Alnmouth staying open for the evening.

We are hoping to arrange a Christmas dinner on December 10, and our meeting in December will be a Christmas party with “In-house entertainment.” Should be very interesting.

Ann Brixey has made a beautiful patchwork quilt which we will raffle for funds over the festive season.

In November we are looking forward to a demonstration of calligraphy by Michael Mavromichaelis.
