Many in the Alnwick area will have fond memories of Mike Neville, who presented BBC’s Look North from 1964 to 1996 and then ITV’s North East Tonight until his retirement in 2005.
Neville, who was awarded an MBE, will also be remembered for a series of recordings, which attempted, not always seriously, to bring the Geordie dialect to the rest of England.
To mark his 80th birthday, Lionheart Radio will be broadcasting a two-hour special show at 11am on Sunday with a repeat at the same time next Tuesday.
Presenter Dave Nicholson will be talking to Mike about his career and playing some of his favourite music.
Garth Jeffery, chairman of Lionheart Radio who used to work with Neville at the BBC, said: “Mike was a great character and I am sure that lots of fun and happy memories are guaranteed. We are very grateful to our friends at Radio Tyneside for allowing us to broadcast this special programme.”
