Power has been restored to most of the 2,000 properties in Alnwick hit by a power cut this afternoon.
But there are still homes without power, including some in Oaky Balks, and Northern Power Grid (NPG) have estimated that electricity will not be restored to everyone until 11.45pm.
Rachel Oxley tweeted to the Gazette: “Still no power in Oaky Balks, getting cold in here now :)”
The 1,950 customers of NPG in the NE66 postcode, including the Gazette building and others in the town centre, lost electrictiy at around 3.45pm.
Some four hours later, a message from the energy company said: “We’ve restored the power in the NE66 area, thank you for your patience and sorry for the inconvenience caused.”
But it appears the company had jumped the gun and, in fact, not everyone was back.
Its latest message, sent out at 9.20pm, said: “Our engineers have isolated the fault, restoring power to the majority of our customers. Our engineers need to repair the fault to the local substation to restore power to your property. We are estimating that all power should be restored by approximately 23.45hrs.”
Just before the electricity was restored to most of the properties at about 6.30pm, the whole of the town centre was plunged into darkness for several minutes.
