Lifeboats prepare to search for people feared cut off by rising tide on Holy Island

Humber Coastguard requested the launch of both lifeboats to a report of people on rocks being cut off by the tide, somewhere on the island's shore.

Both lifeboats were paged for launch in preparation of a search.

But at 10.30pm, less than 10 minutes after the request, the Coastguard cancelled the lifeboats as they were launching. The people had been found by local coastguards on Holy Island.

Although they had headlamps, they had become disorientated in the dark, were alarmed by the incoming tide and feared that they were being cut off, on rocks on the east side of the island.

Seahouses lifeboat operations manager Ian Clayton said: "We were pleased that Holy Island Coastguards located them so quickly, and all turned out well. In such circumstances, it is important to get search resources in place quickly. Thankfully on this occasion, they were not needed."
