Coastguard and lifeboat crews were in action this afternoon after three people were cut off by the tide on the north Northumberland coast.

Holy Island Coastguard Rescue Team was called out earlier this afternoon following a 999 call from three persons cut off by the tide on St Cuthbert’s Island, Holy Island.

Once on scene, officers estimated that it would be six hours before the casualties would be able to walk back safely onto Holy Island.

The Seahouses lifeboat was then launched to take the trio from St Cuthbert’s Island back to Holy Island into the care of Coastguard officers.
