Lifeboat launched to assist paramedics as elderly patient suffers head injuries in fall

A Northumberland lifeboat team was launched to assist paramedics in reaching a patient at Holy Island.

Seahouses Lifeboat Station was called on Tuesday, May 12 by Humber Coastguard to assist paramedics from the North East Ambulance Service in reaching Holy Island.

They were being called to the aid of an elderly woman, who had fallen and sustained head injuries.

The lifeboat was met by Holy Island Coastguard to transfer the paramedics to the patient, who was treated and assessed.

The casualty was later taken back to Seahouses Harbour by lifeboat and then onto hospital by ambulance for further assessment.

In a statement on Facebook, the Lifeboat Station said its crew was back at base and ready for service again by 9.30pm on Tuesday; despite the blustery conditions faced on the passage to and from Holy Island.

The statement added: “Great co-operation by all the emergency services involved.”
