INDIAN ADVENTURE: With our president, Val Brooks on holiday, Joyce Ball opened the meeting by welcoming us all and wishing everyone a slightly belated happy New Year.
With Institute business addressed, we sat back to listen to the evening’s presentation. Unfortunately, our advertised guest speaker was unable attend but luckily the globe-trotting duo of Kathleen and Harry Gilbert were able to step into the breach and gave an audio-visual account of their recent trip to southern India.
There was then a chance to see how the sari is worn and the complexities of dressing in the garment were demonstrated by Kathleen, although it will be unlikely that many of our members will be promenading on a windy Alnmouth beach in saris.
The monthly competition, a perfume bottle, was won by Kathleen Turnbull, second Annette Ord, third Molly Fairbairn.
Birthday flowers were sent to Hazel Wintrip.
Joyce brought the meeting to a close encouraging everyone to support Ann Turnbull’s coffee morning and reminding us all of the Institute’s lunch at the Tankerville Arms at Eglingham, which is being eagerly anticipated.
Our next meeting is on Tuesday, February 14, which will include a talk by Christina Murton and the monthly competition is a favourite piece of jewellery.
