Green-fingered children at Whittingham C of E Primary School have been planting vegetables and learning about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.

The Year 5 pupils are taking part in an NHS initiative at The Alnwick Garden, called Roots and Shoots.

They have been learning about the importance of eating well and exercising.

As part of this, they have been attending The Garden and have had to look after and harvest crops.

Also, Year 5 and 6 children have been planting vegetables back at school and as part of My Money Week, they set up a Pick Your Own stall and sold fresh produce to parents and the community.

Proceeds from the sale have gone towards purchasing new sports equipment for use at breaktime.

Earlier this year, we reported how the children were spending 15 minutes a day running around the school field, as part of living a healthy lifestyle.
