An Amble man who made off without paying for a taxi has been fined and ordered to pay compensation.

Kyle Matthew Lorimer Edgar, 21, of Cheviot Dale, pleaded guilty to the offence, which happened in January.

Edgar was charged with making off without paying for a £38 taxi fare.

Magistrates at Bedlington ordered him to pay that amount back in compensation and also served him with a £130 fine.

He also needs to pay costs and a surcharge totalling £115.

○ An Alnwick man has been fined for driving an overweight vehicle.

James Joseph Hughes, 63, of Upper Barresdale, pleaded guilty to the offence, which occurred on the A1 in April.

He has to pay £85 in costs and had his driving record was endorsed with three penalty points.

○ A woman has been banned from the roads after being nearly four times over the legal drink-drive limit.

Katherine Elizabeth Hutchinson, 56, of Cottingwood Gardens, Morpeth, pleaded guilty to the offence, which happened in Morpeth in June.

She was caught with 135 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

She was disqualified for three years, which can be reduced if she completes a course, and she must serve 100 hours of unpaid work within 12 months. She must also pay £170 in costs.
