As well as the compensation, he must complete 180 hours of unpaid work within the next 12 months, and pay £200 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

He was given a year-long restraining order, which stops him from contacting his victim and entering the Market Tavern, in Alnwick.

○ A Blyth man with a ‘history of violence’ against women has been sent to prison.

Barry Andrew Thomas, 34, of Chestnut Avenue, pleading guilty to three offences, which included assaulting two women on March 30 – breaching a restraining order in the process.

He was sent to prison for 22 weeks, with magistrates saying that he had a ‘flagrant disregard for court orders, had a history of violence against the same victims and the offences were committed in public’.

He was given a two-year restraining order and must pay £115 to victim services.

○ An Ashington man has been given a suspended prison sentence for criminal damage.

Paul Wendt, 45, of College Road, pleaded guilty to causing £200 of damage to a window at Guide Post on February 13 this year. He also admitted causing damage while he was drunk, breaching an anti-social behaviour order.

The offence also occurred while he was subject to a six-month conditional discharge order, imposed by magistrates at the start of the year for another criminal damage offence – causing £450 of damage to a window of Mike Rogerson Estate Agents, Ashington.

For the latest offences, he was given a 12-week prison sentence, suspended for a year, and was ordered to pay a total of £365, including £200 compensation.
