Fire crews from across the county have been tackling a major blaze close to the A697.
In total 40 firefighters from Rothbury, Alnwick, West Hartford, Wooler and Pegswood were involved inextinguishing the warehouse fire at Swarland Brickworks near Thrunton.
Police and fire crews received a call at about 9.45am.
When they arrived they were confronted with a well-developed fire involving shredded carpet in large bales. The fire was located in a large warehouse approximately 80m x 60m.
Crews were also also informed of the possible involvement of acetylene cylinders.
Jets have been put in place to cover the acetylene risk and protect surrounding buildings. A defensive approach is now being used to contain the fire.
On advice from the Environment Agency the outlet to the drains on site has been bunded to contain water runoff and prevent contamination of a nearby lake.
