A woman was killed in a crash on the A1 north of Alnwick this morning.
At 7am a report was received of a collision involving three vehicles – an HGV and two cars on the A1 between Denwick and South Charlton.
The driver of one of the cars, a woman in her 40s, died as a result of the collision.
The driver of the second vehicle, a man in his 30s, was taken to hospital and has since been discharged.
The driver of the HGV suffered minor injuries.
Sergeant Jason Ryder, of Northumbria Police Motor Patrols said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who tragically died in this collision.
“We’re carrying out enquiries to establish exactly what happened and I would ask anyone who was on the A1 north of Alnwick this morning to contact us.”
The road was closed for around six hours but has now reopened.
