A volunteer group is making a final plea for community support to help it win vital funding to carry out improvements at Amble Welfare.

Amble Community Team (ACT) is in the running to secure up to £5,000, as part of Engage Mutual Assurance’s Community Award scheme.

However, it needs people’s votes to be one of only a number of projects to come away with the cash – and voting runs until Monday.

If successful, ACT would put the money towards the first phase of its three-step overhaul project, sprucing up the sports pavilion.

Longer-term aims of the transformation strategy include painting the skate-park shelter and purchasing plants, bulbs, shrubs and bushes to enhance the area and encourage the community to visit and enjoy the facilities and environment.

The provision of seating and table areas is also on the agenda.
