The situation in James Street, which has long been a bone of contention, was discussed again at Monday night’s meeting of the parish council.

While parking is an issue in many parts of the village, this is a key route as it is used by the school buses and provides access to the medical centre for ambulances.

Following a meeting with county-council officers, the chairman, Coun Geoffrey Stewart, reported that double yellow lines are to be put in at the top end by King Street, but nothing is to be done further down until the new primary school moves onto the current middle-school site.

But residents of James Street said that they had received letters before Christmas about introducing residents’ parking bays and permits. Neither the parish council nor county councillor John Woodman knew about this proposal.
