The Northumbrian Language Society is hosting a celebration of the dialects of English, with speakers, poets, story tellers and singers from all over the UK this weekend.
National Dialect Day takes place in Morpeth Town Hall and will feature the annual Roland Bibby Memorial Dialect Lecture, dialect competitions, with three trophies up for grabs, and The Merry Neet – an evening of entertainment.
And the event is not just limited to the above, which all takes place on Saturday from 10am, with the Northumbrian Ranters in concert tomorrow night at 7.30pm in Morpeth Methodist Church.
Sunday sees a Northumbrian Dialect Church Service at 10.30am in St George’s URC Church, followed by the Trafalgar Day Toast on the steps of Lord Collingwood’s House in Oldgate at noon.
