Two kayakers were rescued from the sea off Amble, Northumberland, after getting into difficulty in a treacherous area known as The Triangle.
Amble RNLI’s inshore lifeboat was launched at about 6.10pm on Thursday after the kayakers had ended up in the water south of the harbour and were struggling to get ashore.
The all-weather lifeboat was also launched as back-up but the first crew was quickly on the scene. One crew member went into the water to help the kayakers to the beach, where they were handed over to the Amble Coastguard and an awaiting ambulance.
The kayaks were recovered from the sea and both boats returned to the station.
