Join Friends group to help support key Alnwick facility
Alnwick Cemetery is an important community asset and has a number of areas to maintain, including the cemetery extension consecrated in 2016 and the natural burial area at the top of the main avenue.
As well as keeping the cemetery tidy, the town council undertakes the annual planting of trees, shrubs and bulbs as well as making it more wildlife-friendly.
The Friends of Alnwick Cemetery, now in its fourth year, meets about six times a year for a couple of hours on either a weekday afternoon or a Saturday morning to carry out gardening and tidying activities. All equipment is provided but wearing sturdy footwear is advisable.
The next session for the Friends is on Tuesday between 2pm and 4pm and everyone who would like to help should meet at the cemetery gates at 2pm. Register interest for future dates on 01665 602574.
John Humphries, chairman of the cemetery committee, said: “The Friends of Alnwick Cemetery programme is important to us in helping to keep the cemetery neat and tidy. The town council would like to thank those who have been Friends in the past as having them involved made a real difference to the way the cemetery looks.”
