The successful trio have taken up employment aboard UK fishing vessels, after completing the Introduction to Commercial Fishing Course earlier this month.

The course would normally cost about £550, but thanks to funding from the Seafish Authority, Dennis Osborne, of Anglo-Scottish Seafish Industry Group Training Association, can offer it for free in Amble.

It gives attendees the wherewithal to obtain the necessary certificates to go to sea as a crew member aboard a fishing vessel.

The qualifications include sea survival, basic health and safety, fire fighting and first aid.

A new course starts in Amble on April 4. Call Dennis on 01665 713823 or 07702 042551.

He said: “Fishing skippers, including in Amble, are constantly looking for crews.”
