Liam Huntley (13) faced a local competitor, but in his first outing, against a left-hander, he lost.

Coach Gary Pattinson said: “Liam is work in progress. His push this season will be in the Schools Championships, and all his matches are building and developing towards that.

“This fight will have been good experience for him.”

Jessica Pattinson (13) had to box out of her weight devision of 46kg.

Gary explained: “She boxed at 48kg as due to her experience it is now difficult to get her matches.

“She took on Samantha Neave from Eastside Hull who came in at 51kg. This was a very tough fight where the weight difference played its part but Jessica boxed well and took a deserved win.”

Shea McNiell (16) came unstuck against Will Holdridge from Eastside Hull.

He got caught with a perfectly timed and placed punch in the first round which forced him to the canvas.

Gary said: “Shea has never received a standing count in any of his 20 previous bouts, let alone been stopped. This demonstrates how good a punch it was.

“The mixed results clearly demonstrates what a rollercoaster sport boxing can be and that’s why we all love the sport.

“We are still a young club with home grown boxers that are developing at a very positive rate.”

Meanwhile, Jessica Pattinson has been nominated for the Best Junior Female in the Active Northumberland sports awards for this year.
