The event, organised by Ian (Reg) Carruthers, was one of the most successful the village has had.

It was very well attended by a large number of children of all ages, together with their parents.

The pre-school race was won by Blake Grieve and the first school section by Kacie Robb.

The middle school race was won by Daniel Rae and the girls’ race by Rebekah Hamblin.

The overall winner of the adults’ and children’s combined race was youngster James Gilhome, who demonstrated great speed.

The weather was fine but when the runners turned onto the final straight, the strong westerly wind deprived many of their tossed pancakes, some of which flew backwards over their heads and had to be retrieved before finishing the race.

Toby, the owner of Sunnyhills, provided all the competitors with free pancakes and juice, paid for all of the medals and gave free tea and coffee to the parents.

On Saturday, Belford holds its annual make a pie competition in the Black Swan pub at 6pm.
