We are already planning activities and events for the Abbeyfield House residents in the run-up to Christmas.

The Friends of Abbeyfield are holding a Christmas fair from 2pm on Saturday, November 26.

Whether you would like to pick up a few presents, have a cup of coffee and cake or just to have a look around the home, please come along.

Many of our residents go to their families for Christmas Day, but several enjoy the day in the house, with families and without.

We have a traditional visit from Santa on Christmas Eve and the staff and families work hard to make the festive period special by decorating the lounge and dining-room areas, organising a Christmas party and trip out, and giving presents.

However, Christmas can be a lonely time of the year for those living on their own with either no family or far away from their loved ones.

We know that there are people in the local community who will spend Christmas alone and we would like to extend an invitation to join us for Christmas lunch.

l Abbeyfield House, in Alnwick, is one of two beneficiaries of this year’s Jam Jar Army campaign, which we have extended through until next summer. Return your full jars or collect stickers and posters from the Gazette office.
