The Rotary Club and the Inner Wheel in Alnwick held a gin and rum tasting night at the Masonic Hall recently to raise funds for Abbeyfield House.

The presidents of both organisations –Dave Campbell and Linda Thompson – have chosen Abbeyfield House as their nominated charity for the year that they are in office and held the event in conjunction with Taste of Northumbria and Alnwick Gin – highlighting some very local products.

The evening started with an Alnwick Gin cocktail, served with Fentimans Pink Grapefruit Tonic and a sprig of rosemary, and a talk from the gin firm’s Andy, who shared his story about how the brand was developed and produced in a shed just off Percy Street using ingredients sourced in Northumberland.

We moved onto a selection of gins, meads, rums and liqueurs supplied and talked about by Janik from the Taste of Northumbria shop in the Market Place in Alnwick.

He is passionate about the brands, their connection to Northumberland and keeping the history and future of the locally-produced products alive.

Rotary and Inner Wheel have a long association with Abbeyfield House, raising awareness and funds for the home. The event was not only good fun, it gave the perfect opportunity to find out more about what is on our doorstep in Alnwick while raising more than £750 for Abbeyfield House.
