Is residents’ parking the way forward?

A residents’ parking scheme has been proposed in a bid to tackle parking chaos along a Wooler street, which is particularly bad during the football season.

People living along The Martins want to give the red card to the ‘nightmare’ situation on Saturdays when the Glendale Football League is staged at Glendale Middle School.

Coun Anthony Murray said: “What happens is a resident is parked, they move their car, a football car goes into the space and the resident can’t get back in.

“We could probably go for residents’ parking and have it time-limited, to say a Saturday morning or whatever is necessary.

“It isn’t an easy one. It is being looked at to try to come up with something that is helpful, because it is chaotic. But we don’t want to stop the football.”

The Glendale League website encourages parking at Redpath’s Yard or at Wooler FC’s ground and urges people not to park in the streets around the school.
