It follows concerns raised by residents about regular outflows of surface flood water emanating from the wetland area in the north-east corner of the Bernicia Way estate of 40 houses, which was completed in 2017.

Andy Brown, who has taken up the issue with Northumbrian Water, outlined the current situation at a meeting of Beadnell Parish Council.

He said: “At present, Northumbrian Water is pumping out water from the wetlands pond into tankers on a monthly basis and carrying out a hydraulic modelling study to assess the problem.

“Northumbrian Water has assured me that it is responsible for any necessary upgrade to the infrastructure and will update me with their plan of action by January 24, 2020.”

Fellow resident Chris Brown, who has also raised concerns about the Dunes Court area, added: “It’s very clear that Northumbrian Water are actively working on this.”
