Investigation launched after fire above shop in Ashington

The fire service has launched an investigation after a blaze burnt through the roof of a home above Neo Orthodontics in Ashington.

At around 4.10pm on Wednesday, December 11, Northumberland Fire and Rescue service received a call with reports of a property on fire above Neo Orthodontics on Station Road in Ashington.

Fire fighters were sent to the scene with help from Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue service's aerial ladder.

A spokeswoman for Northumberland Fire and Rescue said: “The fire was in the roof space of a residential property above a shop.

“We had four pumps from Pegswood and West Hartford as well as an aerial ladder from Tyne and Wear Fire FRS.”

The fire was successfully put out by 7.40pm.

Fire fighters have planned to attend the scene on Thursday, December 12 as an investigation is underway into the cause of the blaze.
