Investigation continues into cause of large fire at multiple farm buildings in Hexham

Crews worked through the night to extinguish a large fire located in multiple farm buildings in Hexham and the investigation is ongoing into its cause.

At around 5.40pm on Wednesday, February 5, Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service were called to a fire in the Greenrigg and Spitalshield moor area of Hexham.

Crews joined together to tackle the 1000 sqm large blaze including those from from Hexham and Allendale Fire Station, Prudhoe Fire Station, Haltwhistle Fire Station, County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue, and Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue.

Their work continued through the night and into the next morning and at 8.45am on Thursday, February 6, fire fighters remained at the scene of the incident.

On Friday, February 7, a spokeswoman for the fire service confirmed that the investigation into the cause is ongoing.

Thankfully, the fire service confirmed that no people or livestock were hurt as a result.
