An injured kite-surfer was airlifted to hospital this afternoon following a joint operation by ambulance, coastguard and search and rescue crews.
A Sea King helicopter from RAF Boulmer took the casualty from Budle Bay to the RVI in Newcastle for treatment.
The Seahouses Coastguard team was called out to help the North East Ambulance Service with the incident and a Search and Rescue helicopter was requested.
Newbiggin Coastguard team was alerted to prepare a landing site at Wansbeck General Hospital but the helicopter was diverted to the RVI so Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade was paged to man a landing site there.
It was the second alert of the day for Seahouses Coastguard.
Earlier, the team was called out to help the ambulance service with an injured person on a dive boat off Seahouses.
Members helped take the casualty off the boat and into an ambulance. The injury was described as not dive-related.
