It all started in a store room at the back of Temptations cafe in Alnwick.

But now, less than a decade later, and family-run business Total Flooring has left these humble beginnings behind and expanded dramatically.

The recent opening of its new Karndean design studio on the town’s Fenkle Street is proof of that.

The fact that the firm is Karndean Designflooring’s only Platinum standard retailer in the North East is further testament to the company’s ever-growing reputation.

Add to that the recent recruitment of two new fitters to its ranks, and it looks as though the future is bright for Total Flooring.

And Shaun Baston, who first set up the company in 2004 with his wife Lisa and father Barry, said the growth is very much down to the firm’s ethos and commitment.

“It’s our work ethic. It’s as simple as that.

“We pride ourselves on the quality of our staff and the quality of their work.”

While the company was set up less than a decade ago, both Barry and Shaun have years of experience in the industry behind them.

They decided to take the plunge in 2004 by setting up their own company and haven’t looked back.

The family affair doesn’t stop there either.

Shaun’s mum Lorraine Baston, his sister Louise Jones and her husband Allan also work for the company.
