Northumberland County Council is resurfacing and relining the parking area, which will make it clearer and easier to use by motorists, helping to reduce congestion on local streets.

Ward councillor Kate Cairns said: “Once again, as in all of our popular, beautiful and sensitive coastal villages, the influx of tourists places pressure on residents and their enjoyment of their properties and village.

“I am pleased to have been able to speak up for residents and gain agreement from the county council for funding for this project.

“These improvements to the Quarry Car Park will provide an increase in parking capacity so that the residents are not so disadvantaged by visitors. This is good for locals and for tourists alike.”

Coun Ian Swithenbank, cabinet member for local services at Northumberland County Council, added: “This improved car park is great for the local area. It will be a real asset to the village and provide a much better facility for visitors to this picturesque area.”

The work has been scheduled to miss the half-term holiday week. Weather permitting, the council will be doing the resurfacing work on Monday and Tuesday, with the white lining to follow next Wednesday and Thursday.
