More than 70 people packed into Lesbury Village Hall last week to discuss the issue.

Even though parking has been extended at the station, there continues to be a shortage of spaces, often leading to an overspill on nearby streets.

This can sometimes make it difficult for local residents to park and impede buses and emergency vehicles.

Concerns have also been raised about people leaving their vehicles at the station for long periods of time.

Ideas put forward at the meeting included charges for station parking; residents’-only parking permits around the station; extended car parks, which could be more than one storey but not visible from the road; improving public transport to and from the station and encouraging cycling; a new access road to the station going behind the residential area; and an app to promote car sharing.

The meeting was organised by Lesbury Parish Neighbourhood Development team. County councillor Gordon Castle and highways officer Richard McKenzie attended.

The views will be sent to the county council, as part of a wider transport consultation, and referenced in the Neighbourhood Development Plan.

The team is happy to continue to receive suggestions.
