Hotspur WI, Meeting

Members enjoyed a group evening, and the annual event was hosted by Lesbury WI this year.

It was attended by WI members from Alnmouth, Amble, Brizlee, Longhoughton and Boulmer and Shilbottle.

Sixty members took their seats in Lesbury Village Hall for an evening of food and entertainment.

Barbara Thompson opened the evening by welcoming everyone, before handing over to Lesbury’s vice president Annette Ord, who also welcomed the members from each institute.

The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved, together with an update on the group’s financial situation – fortunately healthy.

This was followed by an entertaining description by our WIA Prudence Marks.

She gave a humorous account of a disastrous visit to London as a result of the good old British railway on a Sunday.

Coming home by the same means was only slightly better – again there was no hot food, but as many G&Ts as you wanted.

The entertainment for the evening was introduced and The Best of Fettle kept the audience laughing and singing for an hour.

Tales from Northumberland abounded, together with jokes, a recitation and music.

A feast then followed, with members tucking in to pates, cheeses and desserts, with lemon posset receiving great plaudits.

The winner of the night’s competition for the rose bowl was a victorious Alnmouth, yet again. How do they do it?

When raffle prizes had been won, Barbara thanked everyone for coming, and particularly the hosts for a splendid evening.
