One of the runners is lymphoedema specialist nurse Debbie Allan.

Debbie started work at the Hospice in 2003 working mainly in day care and half a day a week in the lymphoedema clinic. The demand for the lymphoedema service grew and soon she took up most of Debbie’s time.

Recently she has become more involved with the Hospice at Home service, while still supporting and treating palliative patients who have swelling to any part of their body caused by illnesses, such as cancer.

She said: “I love what I do and find it very rewarding being able to support people. During the last 13 years I have seen the Hospice services continue to develop and grow to meet the needs of the local community.

“I am privileged to have been part of such an amazing organisation for so long and to have met many amazing people along the way.

“For years I have watched the GNR on TV and been amazed by the runners and spectators imaging the atmosphere. So I decided to set myself a challenge before I reach 40! And to raise funds for a charity that means so much to me.”
