A FORMER petrol station and garage which has stood empty for more than two years could be given a new lease of life.
The dilapidated Willis site on South Road is becoming an eyesore in the town.
Tesco bought the land a number of years ago but was refused planning permission and it has remained empty since previous owner Stan Willis moved out.
But the Gazette has been told that the site is under offer and a new owner could soon be on the cards.
Alnwick town and county councillor Gordon Castle said: “This is a very positive step. Of course we will have to wait and see what it might be in terms of planning.
“I would like to see a business that will employ Alnwick people.”
Elsewhere plans are progressing for a new petrol station on the outskirts of Alnwick.
Northumberland Estates was given permission to build a retail kiosk and filling station on land opposite Cawledge Business Park in November last year.
Outline planning permission was also given for a fast food drive-through restaurant at the site.
