Cadets from across Northumberland descended on Alnwick Castle after their parade through the town, to be granted the Freedom of the county.
The Duchess of Northumberland and Brigadier Grenville Bibby CBE took the salute along the way before chairman of Northumberland County Council, Coun Jim Smith, gave a short speech and presented Northumbria Army Cadet Force with a scroll which allows them to march on ceremonial occasions with flags flying, drums beating and bayonets fixed.
Presentations were also made to adult instructors with more than five years’ service, who received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal.
A number of cadets were given their Duke of Edinburgh Silver Awards.
Among those honoured was Major Mark Ewart, commanding officer of W Company, which has detachments in Alnwick, Amble, Belford, Broomhill and Rothbury.
