Homes bid for site on way into Amble
Plans have been lodged to build seven homes on the site of a former pub and now antiques store with café on the way into Amble.
Hindmarsh Homes wants to build the ‘high-quality and inherently sustainable’ terraced row of properties on the current site of Artique, formerly the Marina Arms, on the A1068 as you enter the town from Warkworth, with the existing building to be demolished.
Each four-bedroom house would have a three-storey main building facing onto the A1068 with a single-storey section to the rear connecting to an attached garage.
The seven homes would all have a sheltered courtyard area at the back as well as outdoor terraces to the front and rear on the second floor.
A design and access statement submitted as part of the application says: ‘From the outset of the scheme, it has been imperative that the privacy enjoyed by existing properties surrounding the development is not adversely affected by proposed development.
‘As a result, development along the north-western part of the site has been orientated with front aspect over the public highway, taking advantage of views of Warkworth Castle and the countryside.
‘All dwellings within the development are arranged over three storeys to the similar scale of the stone building at the south of the site.
‘There are large offset distances from the garages and the existing properties. The rear sections are one-storey which respects the single storeys to the rear.’
Access will be from the existing entrance on the southern edge of the site, off Riverside Park.
Each property would have two parking spaces in addition to a garage, while the site would also feature visitors’ parking bays and a bin-collection area.
The bid has so far sparked one objection from a neighbour in Riverside Park.
