A Northumberland business set up less than eight years ago has clocked up the equivalent of seven-and-a-half round-the-world trips in taking dogs to and from holiday destinations.

The growth in business has led to an increase in the number of people looking after the vacationing pooches. Details of how Barking Mad, the Guyzance-based home from home pet care franchise, has grown were revealed at a recent special thank-you lunch for the dogs’ hosts.

Barking Mad boss Tina Young told guests at the function in Swarland that since she started in 2005, some1,700 holidays had been organised with the specially-adapted dog transporting vehicles logging nearly 188,000 miles.

“We have 350 customers, and 29 hosts who replicate the affection and routines to which the dogs in their temporary care are accustomed,” she said.

Such has been the success of the venture that Tina has taken on two people to help with the business.

“I could not have achieved this level of success without the commitment, hard work, care and dedication of my wonderful hosts who shower the utmost love and attention on the dogs they look after,” she added.
