Holy Island in UK's top 10 coastal attractions

Holy Island has been voted as one of the UK's most favourite coastal attractions, in a poll run by a holiday park operator.

The Northumberland destination was ranked joint sixth, alongside the White Cliifs of Dover – taking six per cent of the votes.

The study of 1,000 UK adults was run by Park Resorts and St Michael’s Mount, in Cornwall, topped the list with 15 per cent of the votes.

Second was Whitby Abbey (nine per cent), followed by Blackpool Pleasure Beach and Brighton Pier (both eight per cent).

Others in the top 10 were Blackpool Tower (seven per cent); Giants Causeway, Northern Ireland (five per cent); Beachy Head, Eastbourne (four per cent); and The Grand Pier, Weston-super-Mare (two per cent).

Park Resorts has created a new tool called 2000 Horizons, featuring flickr-sourced pictures which are stitched together into one panoramic image.

Joined along the central line of the horizon, the interface allows users to explore the full length of the entire British coast.
