Holy Island Forget Me Not Walk raises over £3,000 for Bloodwise

There were more than 200 walkers, marshals and helpers on the day, all trying to raise funds to find a cure for blood cancer.

The weather was a little windy and chilly for the time of year, but excellent for walking.

Yet again, a lovely feature of the day was the large number of families walking with young children and a large variety of dogs. Walkers came from far and wide, while there was also fantastic local support.

September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month and this was a great way to raise awareness in the community.

The North Northumberland Fund-raising Group believes the walk is becoming a destination event for families affected by blood cancer.

The walk would not have been possible without the support of Lindisfarne Limited, Michael Richardson and Northumbrian Water. The marshals were again provided by pupils and staff at Berwick Academy and were led by Linda Crouch and all of their help was invaluable.

The sum raised so far is £3,321, but this is expected to rise substantially as sponsor money comes in.

The group have already started planning next year’s walk on September 30.
